Thank you for bringing the problem of our pump “jumping” a few cents to our attention. We need to know so we can fix it immediately, which we will do. This situation is caused by a minor leak between the internal and external hoses that carry the vapors from the nozzle while fueling. You cannot see it, but our hose is actually a hose inside a hose. One hose carries the fuel to your car, and the inner hose carries the vapors back to be safely recycled. These hoses are sensitive, expensive, and checked for leakage constantly by an outside firm (which we are required to do by law), but sometimes they develop a tiny internal leak which needs to be “refilled”, and at today’s prices this small amount shows as a few pennies. Five cents may seem like a lot, but in terms of gallons it is two hundreths of a gallon. Two cents jumping is 8 thousanths of one gallon. Our cashier was totally incorrect when she told you there was nothing she could do, since she clearly should have given you the 2 or 5 cents back. We allow her up to five dollars per customer to do this. We will retrain her immediately. Pride Stations & Stores in Chicopee,Mass. on the corner of Montgomery and Graton St. I purchased gas there today with a debit card on pump 4 at 11'43 A.M. When I inserted my card I put the nossle in my tank and when the pump was authorized I pushed for 87 octane . It promted me to start feuling and before i even started it registered .05 cents on the cost . This is not the first time this has happened to me at this station . Last time it was only 2 cents and i told the store attendent about it and she said there was nothing she could do about it and that there was no proof that i didn't just stop the pump there . She is correct there is no proof but how many times does that happen and people don't say anything about it. If this happens again I will report it to the weights and measures dept. of Chicopee.
