Motorcycle Stolen; Thermostat Off-Limits What's Important at Highlands at Faxon Woods 1) A motorcycle was recently stolen from the garage. The owner of the bike circulated a notice offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to its return. One of the points mentioned in the notice is 'There are no security cameras in the garage or outside areas so use caution.' 2) The following notice is posted by the thermostat in the workout area: To All Residents: Do Not Touch the AC Thermostat. If you need it adjusted please ask for assistance in the front office. If any resident is observed (Via security cameras) adjusting the temperature themselves they will be in Violation of the Community Policies (3 violations result in termination of lease) Thank you, Management (Note: No security cameras are in evidence.) Conclusions: --The security and safety of residents' vehicles are not important--at least not enough to buy security cameras for. --The sanctity of the exercise room thermostat IS important enough to buy security cameras for. Date posted: 6/15/2008 Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008 Residents Locked Out of Building Anecdote: I came home Saturday (14 June 08) night to find that my Highlands-issued fob did not open the front door to the building. Fortunately, a neighbor who happened to be in the lobby recognized me and let me in. This morning (Sunday, 15 June 08), I left the building to go to the gym. Attempting to re-enter the building with the fob did not work on two different doors. A call to maintenance (which was eventually returned) revealed that 'several people had had this problem since Friday', and that 'there was no way around it'. Points to ponder: 1) There was no notification of this failure, and it's been known for at least two days. If it were winter, a heat wave, a storm, and/or you had an infant or child outside, you'd have been out of luck for the past two days. (The building doors are locked, even when there are people in the offices.) (FWIW, a version of this (one door locked to fobs) DID happen in winter.) 2) There is no workaround. If you're stuck outside, you must either go in through one of your windows (if you're on the first floor), or someone else's (if you're not). 3) It is not clear when (or if) this will be resolved. 4) There is no notification mechanism for this being resolved; when asked, maintenance admitted that 'you have to take your chances when you leave the building' (my quote). 5) This will very likely result in some rent-paying resident(s) compromising the very locked doors the fobs are supposed to access, simply so they can get to their own apartment(s). Post Office Does Not Deliver Packages Here Update 06 June 08: Still No USPS Package Delivery From: l_bock@hotmail.com Date posted: 6/6/2008 Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008 The Office of Consumer Affairs for the USPS, Boston reports that Faxon Highlands has still not submitted the required paperwork (quote from USPS representative: 'A letter with the one sentence: 'We accept responsibility.' is all that's necessary.') has NOT been submitted; no matter what the management purports to residents. (The representative pointed out that she has access to all e-mail and scanned correspondence between Faxon Highlands and the post office.) Thus, if you are considering moving here, bear in mind that you will need to allow for picking up your own packages (and any other sort of storage- or signature-required mail) from the Quincy Center post office--during Quincy Post Office hours. Of course, with an overnight/next-day/etc. delivery, tell whoever's sending it to tack on at least a day for you to get the notification and make the trip to the post office. (They're open normal post office hours, after all.) Good luck with that.
