After reading an ad at Vehix.com, I called Tom O'Brien Hyundai and placed a deposit on the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant. The price was clearly posted in the ad.
I called today and said that I was coming and to have the car ready for me to see at noon. I test drove it and agreed to buy it for the price advertised in the ad, plus their $250 internet coupon. That's when things got funny....all of a sudden I was told that I needed to pay an additional $2500 or have a trade in to get the price quoted in the ad. I was given some cock and bull story about how this "fine print" appears in all their ads. If you reference Vehix.Com, you will note that there is no "fine print"
Ultimately, they agreed to sell me the car for the price posted. End of the story? Not a chance. Halfway through the transaction, the sales manager told me that the "owner" had reneged on the deal and they refused to sell me a car that they had advertised at the price that they had advertised.
Needless to say, I was furious, and remain so. I walked out with a black cloud over my head. I called to speak to the owner and was given the general manager instead. She acknowledged that she put the kibosh on the sale as "I can't afford to sell the car for a loss". When I responded that I had an advertisement posting the price and that I had been willing to pay that price she advised me that "people make mistakes". I've filed a report with the Attorney General's Office as well.
While I still want the car, I will probably place my business somewhere else. I really think bait and switch operations such at Tom O'Brien Hyundai should be exposed for what they are!
