Welcome to medford

Medford is located just a few miles north of Boston. Incorporated as a city in 1892, Medford has a vast historical background. In the late 19th century, local resident James Pierpont wrote "Jingle Bells" after watching a sleigh race. Another local resident, Lydia Maria Child, made a poem out of the trip across town to her grandparents' house, now the classic song "Over the River and Through the Woods". Medford has also been home to Fannie Farmer, Amelia Earhart and Michael Bloomberg. Today Medford is divided into several neighborhoods; Brooks Estates, North Medford, Wellington, Station Landing, Medford Square, Medford Hillside, Tufts University, Lawrence Estates and Glenwood. Numerous MBTA bus lines go through Medford Square, allowing easy access to other parts of town and to nearby cities. Wellington station on the Orange Line and the Lowell Commuter Rail Line also service the area.
