Brooks Academy Museum

This museum housed in the stunning old Brooks Academy is a gem ! The visitor is transported into another era & can browse at his own pace. Just lovely. There is a wonderful Civil War exhibit there now (2008-9) which depicts the impact of that tragic time on the residents of Harwich. It shows the effects of war on the battlefield & on the homefront as seen through the eyes of locals. The primitive state of medicine at that time is highlighted to great effect as well. Another great exhibit there now (2008-9) is the Cape Cod Railroad which takes up virtually an entire room & depicts the town of Harwich during the age of rail. It's painstakingly reproduced by local railroad buffs who must have spent years constructing it. Children of all ages love it. This museum was a highlight of our trip !
