I know about this place for many years. Every time I get to Vernissage they surprise me with their new creations. I was told by the waitstuff that chef picks up atraditional recepe and adds some contemporary fusion to it, so it tastes still like a dish from many years ago but has som contemporary look and different flavor. Very Creative!!! I heared they got many rewards for their hard job. Also they have Jazz at Vernissage project which goes on for almost 3 years and helps young musicians to find their way to perform, also they offer kareoke fridays ones a months and russian rock concerts. this is wonderful place and i recommend everyone at least one time to step in and feel that atmosphere and taste their culinary creations.

Vernissage Restaurant in Washington Square is absolutely delightful! I had a roomate for years from NY, but she was originally from Russia. Not only did I learn that that she was not "yelling" at her mother everytime she was on the phone(that is just the way the language sounds) I also learned to eat some delicious russian food! After I moved out, I had a little something missing, until I discovered Vernissage in Washington Square. One night, after meeting a co worker at Washington Square Tavern, we decided no pick a different place to eat. We walked by the door to Vernissage, and it is a little deceiving because the front does not look like a normal restaurant. I just had to go in when I saw it was Russian cuisine! We were definitely not disappointed! The restaurant was comfortable and not over crowded, the bar is beautiful, stocked with every vodka you could imagine(of course!) We sat and ordered a bunch of appetizers to sample. We had Mushroom Julienne, Home made Dumplings, Garlicky fried potato with mushrooms and a lamb soup. All of it was so different and soooo good! Honestly, a great experience, different from the average night out with jazzy, funky music playing, I think everybody should try Vernissage at least once!
