I have gone to this place for years, and they are fine. Nora's comments strike me as a bit strange, because she indicates that he was frustrated at not having this billed as a routine eye exam, when it sounds like her case was indeed an emergency and should have been billed as such.

I had gotten some chemical in my eye and needed to see my opthamologist right away. Unfortunately, he was out of state for several weeks at the time. He has other offices though, so I was referred to see the person covering for him at the nearest other office - this one. I was relieved I could see someone and didn't need to spend half a day in an ER for this. I was assured as I paid my copay and left that everything would be fine and they would contact me if there were any problems. 9 months after the fact, I have just found out that my insurance will not cover this visit and I am expexted to pay the full amount - nearly $300. After a call to my insurance provider, the reason my insurance refused it was because they coded the bill as a "Routine Eye Exam", NOT an Emergency Visit, which is what it was. I'm STILL trying to work this out. They have not expressed a willingness to rebill this properly, and have only offered to lower the amount of the bill. My insurance is happy to accept the charge if they bill it properly, so I don't see what the problem is. I'm lucky I have excellent insurance. There are many that have a 3 to 5 month time limit on rebilling errors. If that were the case here, I would have been in real trouble - in this economy the cost of that bill could have left me with no money for food, electricity or heat for the next month and a half. It may still, if they don't rebill the visit properly. That's what bothers me most - the 9 months before they bothered to let me know about this. That should be criminal, considering the time limits on many insurance plans for rebilling. The next thing that bothers me is that their Billing Specialist could not tell me why the visit was rejected. I told her the reason I was there and she has access to the file and was looking at it, yet she could not see that it was billed incorrectly as a "Routine Exam" and could only guess that the issue was that I didn't have a referral or the office didn't take my kind of insurance. So far they have been supremely unhelpful in resolving a problem THEY caused. I'm still waiting for them to call me back. Meanwhile, I want to get the word out - while the Doctors there are great and I was very impressed with them, the Staff leave a lot to be desired. Not only will they be very likely to improperly bill your proceedure, requiring YOU to pay for something your insurance would be able to cover, they will NOT be of much help in resolving the issue, and won't even tell you about it until at least 9 months later. You're taking a big risk financially if you go here. Unless you like to gamble with your hard earned savings in this economy, avoid this place at all costs.
