The term "downtown" has different meanings to many people. It's mostly referred to across the country as the commercial and entertainment district within any community. Downtown, Boston, however, refers to even more. For the most part, downtown Boston includes the Financial District and Post Office Square, where most of the city's skyscrapers can be found, and where most of the weekday hustle and bustle happens. Downtown Boston also includes other sections of the city, including Downtown Crossing, the West End, Bulfinch Triangle, and Government Center. Boston was founded in 1630, and is the capital and most populous city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is the largest city in New England. Boston is one of the oldest and most historically rich cities in the United States. A world-class city, Boston is home to the American Revolution and such famous Americans as Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Hancock, John F. Kennedy, and countless others. Boston is also home to some of the most storied sports teams in the country, including the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots. Boston has many nicknames, including Bean Town, The Hub, The Cradle of Liberty, and America's Walking City. All things considered, the City of Boston is actually quite small, but the combined metropolitan area of greater Boston is large, and very populous.
