Welcome to Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill, a neighborhood of
Boston, is actually only about one square mile in size but home to approximately 10,000 people! Home to the Massachusetts State House with it's gold dome, and the neighborhood of choice for some of the city's most elite, Beacon Hill was originally owned by William Blaxton, the first settler of Boston, who eventually sold the land to the Puritans. The neighborhood was named for the location of a former beacon atop Boston's highest point.** Beacon Hill was home to many notable Americans including Louisa May Alcott, Robert Frost, John Hancock, and Daniel Webster and is currently home to Jack Welch and John Kerry. Beacon Hill is generally a very quiet, cozy, and safe neighborhood. Beacon Hill is home to such landmarks as the gold domed Massachusetts State House, Bull and Finch Bar (inspiration for the television series "Cheers"?) and the Museum of African American History.
Today, you will still find all sort of history along the many brick ways checkered by the many
local restaurants and pubs as well as the
Boston Common.
